Here's a great recipe for a first food. I love to eat it too!
I have been making all of Ewan's purees. This apple puree way better than jarred apple sauce. Ewan loves it too. I've been using the book The Petit Appetit for puree recipes.
Awesome Apple Puree
Cut, quarter, and core about 6 organic Red Delicious apples.
Leave the skin on. This is crucial for the good flavor, I think.
Steam the apple quarters in a steamer basket on the stove for about 10 minutes.
Remove from basket and allow to cool a bit.
Scrape apple from skin with a spoon and transfer to a food processor.
(You can also use an immersion blender.)
Lightly process adding some of the steam water back in for consistency.
Spoon into an ice cube tray and freeze. Pop the cubes out into a freezer bag.
Store for up to 3 months.
This is great because just under the skin is where many of the nutrients are located in an apple. Keeping the skin on during the steaming process makes this puree more nutritious than regular apple sauce.
